Ah, I'm completely rewriting season 5 to be very indulgent. A "The heroes get the miraculous back one by one" approach. And I'm focusing on characters and how they act now that 1. Monarch is terrifying and they can't do anything and 2. The characters saying screw that, WHAT CAN I DO.

They were heroes chosen by Ladybug. They know they can do something, NEED to do something even without their respective Miraculous.

Gabriel is juggling being a single father (cooking housekeeping etc) and actually working a job and he relieves the stress and anger of it all by trying to steal ladybug and chat's miraculous. From a tired clerk he becomes a master of someone's feelings, a prideful strategist in this game against ladybug.

Sometimes his akuma fights resolve in silly situations. Like, Gabriel makes 1000 excuses to take a bathroom break which makes his boss think he has some sort of disorder of sensitive matters

Boss: Gabriel, just so you know, I have cystitis as well. So take your time in the bathroom, brother☺️

Gabriel: *death of the ego*

Or he senses a strong emotions while cooking breakfast and leaves to akumatize this person only for him to fail and come back to a plate of burnt food. And now the fridge is empty too!

Nathalie is a good old friend of the Agrestes. She lives nearby and helps them out from time to time. She takes Adrien to school and sometimes shares her 'leftovers' with the family (they are not actually leftovers, she just says that because prideful mister Agreste wouldn't accept any help)

Emilie is still alive, but in the coma in the local hospital

Adrien is still a little popular, but only as kid from the Graham De Vanily family and a childhood friend of Chloe. Later in series he picks up a modelling gig to help his father out. So later when Adrien realises he doesn't want to be a model anymore it's so much harder to tell his father about it.

Gabriel is still pretty much an absent father. He's either never home or zoning out on the couch. And Adrien knows better than to bother him after a stressful workday.

I grow our own vegetables. Many hybrid and heirloom varieties are bred for flavor rather than for commercial appeal and travel. There are entire species on the allotment that you can’t easily buy in stores because of this - like salsify, a root vegetable that tastes of fish and shellfish. Our neighbours happily take it to make vegan latkes of alarming similarity to fishcakes. You cannot sell it in stores because - despite looking like a white parsnip - it turns brown when you pick it if you scrape/bruise/cut the white root in any way, or damage the delicate little hairs, for some reason, it BLEEDS RED and is very upsetting to look at.

There are whole classes of foods like this. Foods that just don’t ship well or look good on supermarket shelves. Forbidden fruits. Vegetables that bleed and taste like meat. Sorry about this

Baker Creek Heirloom has good seeds but bad politics. They were going to host Cliven Bundy of the Occupation of Malheur National Wildlife Reserve who’s also pro the Capitol Riots and has made a lot of racist nastiness, although backlash made them cancel their guest list (which included other racist folks)

Highly recommend Native Seed/Search and Truelove. Baker Creek has an amazingly large catalog and has some very cool and rare stuff, but they are also Mennonites and as you might expect, they do have terrible politics as listed above, although they do some decent work preserving heirloom seeds from threatened communities.

An organization that does really interesting work preserving seed from threatened communities (and larger companies like baker creek often piggyback off of some of the work done by orgs like this and NS/S) is the Experimental Farm Network. They are very explicit about their (left-leaning) political views and you don’t have to worry about them being Problematic. They have lots of interesting and rare varieties and species you really cannot find anywhere else.

Afaik they are not expressly political beyond their general mission to preserve heirloom seeds (although southern exposure does a good job of preserving some very traditional african-American heirlooms from the Southeast US in particular).

Omg I hadn’t heard of the Experimental Farm Network and I am delighted! I am also completely thrilled to see people other than me remember that Baker Creek is a bunch of lying fash. They claimed they did not know about Cliven Bundy AFTER VISITING HIM IN JAIL. He was literally in jail for his anti-social bullshit when they first talked to him about the watermelons he and his mentor stole from Indigenous people and made their name on. They also take seeds from Indigenous communities globally and profit from them without sharing those profits with the communities they took the seeds from.

…I am blocked by them on Twitter after publicizing the Cliven Bundy crap, full disclosure, I have an actual feud with these people and their unethical practices.

My 11-year-old couldn't decide what flavor of ramen to make, so I told her to flip a coin. Heads for spicy chicken, tails for beef.

Taking my advice, she flipped a penny, and when it landed on tails she said "Wait! Wait! I did it wrong!"

I told her that she did it right, because the real reason for flipping a coin isn't to let fate decide for you, but because when the coin is in the air, you will suddenly realize what you wanted in the first place.

I'm sure there's a life lesson there somewhere…

But honestly, I have never known her to pass up spicy chicken.

Update: Yesterday, her brother asked her if she wanted a corn dog and she couldn't decide, so again I told her to flip a coin. She did so, and without even looking which way it landed, she snatched the penny up and said "I want a corn dog".
